Just got to thinking:Did the Switzer endorsement provide the winning margin for Jari?Remember,a Switzer endorsement seemed to help a Democrat eight years ago. Chris Bryant |
What would William Jennings Bryan do? |

| Who did David Boren or George Nigh support? The margin was so close that any number of people or organizations can claim credit for Askins' come-from-behind victory. |

| No we don't, What Jari did was to get out the vote and what Kitty did was to live on her laurels |

I'm giving it to Barry.
If nothing else, he's the Okie version of Paul the Octopus. |

| Barry needs to worry about Sooner Magic, Sooners can't take another butt beating by Texas in a year they are supposed to win. Lets fire the coach if he can't beat Texas or we can never live through 3 losses in a roll. But I probably could. |

| Sooner Poll was off, race was probably actually closer than thought, Jari's group seemed like they were working very hard all the way to the end, I don't know what the Edmondson campaign GOTV efforts were, did they relax a little at the end? If they did with a little effort they probably would have won. We are lucky to have to strong candidates that stayed clean to the end. |

Two points:
(1) With < 1500 votes separating Askins and Edmondson in the final vote Barry could have made the difference (we will probably never know).
(2) Although Switzer often supports Democratic candidates he has at times also supported Republicans. For example, within the past few months he hosted a fund raiser at his Norman home for creationist Repug Texa$ Governor Perry - $5000 per couple invited (I saw one of the invitation letters). Perhaps, Barry was enhancing his business interests in Baja Oklahoma.
BUT, I am glad for his support of Democratic candidates (e.g., Askins, Henry, and others), although it may turn off certain OSU/Tejas fans we know on this board. |
